Midnight Sun leak makes TIME’s list of Top 10 most famous leaks
Posted by Maria • 1 Comment »

In 2005, rookie author Stephenie Meyer wrote a book about vampires in just a few months. Faster than she’d written it, Twilight leapt from bookshelves and the world met Bella, Edward and the rest of the Cullen clan. Told from Bella’s point of view, Twilight is the story of a star-crossed couple who cannot consummate their romance because Bella’s love, Edward, is a vampire. Meyer followed her breakthrough with three sequels in the next three years, all of which became gigantic bestsellers.

In 2008, she tried something different (sort of) by retelling the events of the first books, only from Edward’s point of view. Sooner than you can say “glittering vampire,” 12 unfinished chapters from the new manuscript, Midnight Sun, appeared on the Internet. “I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being,” Meyer said in a message to fans. Rather than punish her loyal following, Meyer posted her entire unfinished Midnight Sun draft on her website. The only catch is that it’s unprintable — better bring an e-reader.

Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ becomes thirteenth novel to pass 2 million in U.K. sales this century
Posted by Maria • No Comments »

The Twilight series is no stranger to accomplishment, and the latest feat is the fact that Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight has become one of only thirteen novels to pass the two million mark in sales in the United Kingdom this century.

According to The Bookseller, “Stephenie Meyer follows in the footsteps of J K Rowling, Dan Brown and Mark Haddon – the only other authors to have achieved the two-million-in-the-21st-century feat.”

Quite a group to be a part of, no?

Another interesting statistic offered by the source hones in on just how much of a per capita impact the series has had on U.K. fans.

“Last year, one in every 47 books bought in the UK was penned by the US novelist [Stephenie Meyer], while almost 20 pence in every pound spent on a children’s fiction title went towards one of her Twilight novels.”

One can’t help but wonder how those numbers would look in the United States . . . probably pretty similar, don’t you think?

2 New Small Photos of Rob on the set of Water for Elephants
Posted by Maria • No Comments »

CHICKAMAUGA, GA (WRCB) – It was an early wake-up call for dozens of fans as they waited outside an old farm house in Northwest Georgia for a glimpse of actor Robert Pattinson. Many of them got that glimpse too. Channel 3 Eyewitness News was the only television crew on scene as Pattinson walked around in a hoodie.

Pattinson is in town to film opening and closing scenes for the movie Water for Elephants. He will likely only be here for one day, but there is a possibility his stay continues into Saturday.

West Cove Road is now blocked. Security is tight around the movie set. Dozens of young women were removed from the property without incident as they got too close.

The film crew started their day with breakfast around 6:30 a.m. and began shooting soon after 7:00 a.m.

One scene early this morning included children in the yard holding dolls. Another scene included Pattinson walking from the door of the farm house. After the morning shoot, the rest of the daylight scenes will be shot inside the home and away from the view of fans.

Director Floria Sigismondi Talks The Runaways
Posted by Maria • No Comments »

With the strange and surreal aesthetic that informed much of Canadian director Floria Sigismondi’s name-making early music video work (think Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People,” or David Bowie’s “Little Wonder”), it might seem a stretch for her feature directorial debut to be a biopic. The Runaways, released last week on DVD, is the story of the quick formation and dissolution of the ’70s all-girl rock band, and in a recent interview with Exclaim!, Sigismondi spoke about her decision to stray from her usual approach and keep it rooted in visual realism.

“My work doesn’t necessarily stay in reality, I like to go and make it my own little world,” Sigismondi says. “I took license a couple of times in the film to kind of maybe be a little more symbolic, or portray a feeling of loneliness, or like your world is falling apart, but for me, it was important to stay in that real world and tell the story without too many bells and whistles.”

Based on former Runaways’ singer Cherie Currie’s memoir Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, the film is as much a coming-of-age story as it was an historical account.

“For me it was really important to hopefully capture what it was like to be that age, going through that, and being thrown into that rock’n'roll world, and what that meant for them. And I think for each of them it was very different,” says Sigismondi.

The director echoes lead actors Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart’s DVD commentary, in which they explain that the time Currie — and the especially the bands’ founding member/guitarist Joan Jett — spent on set was important. “Having Joan on set really helped because Kristen was able to really sponge off of her, and she really did get her mannerisms down, so that was great.”

As for her influential music videos, Sigismondi had time after the completion and release of The Runaways to direct the most recent Dead Weather video, “Die By the Drop,” a clip loaded with the dark imagery and staccato camera work she’s known for.

“I did a Dead Weather video not that long ago. [It was shot] in Nashville, at Jack [White]‘s record company,” she says. “He’s got a record company there, and a little studio, so we just shot there.”

Sigismondi also says that more feature-length films are definitely something we’ll see from her, but this time, we can expect something a bit different.

“I’ve done my music movie, and I’d love to do something else.”
