The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon graciously took the time to talk to us about what’s on the mind of every Twilighter now that we’re nearing the final weeks before the film. He’s continued to remain tight-lipped about some details (which will make for a better moviegoing experience, of course) but he had much to say on the birth scene (his favorite), the highly anticipated wedding, as well as additional scenes from Edward’s point of view! Warning: This interview contains spoilers.

Fandango: We get so much of Bella’s and Jacob’s view in the last book, but what specific parts do we get to see more of Edward’s point of view?

Condon: There’s something that we put in there that’s referred to in an earlier book. We actually get to see Edward in his early life as a vampire and hear his thoughts about that. There’s a glimpse of him in Twilight describing how he got turned, how he got changed by Carlisle, but this is more extensive. I do think we get more inside Edward and he changes a lot, too. The wedding has an effect on him. There’s an aspect of self-loathing to him about what he did when he was a vampire [earlier] that he releases through Bella’s love. I think that’s a fun thing to watch.

Regardless of where or when a vampire movie is set, nearly all of them take advantage of that oh-so-cinematic feature of blood-suckers: They’re just so damn hot. Men and women alike, it doesn’t matter — if a vampire sets its sights on you, you have almost no choice but to submit. Twilight star Kellan Lutz says he turned down his chance to land Robert Pattinson’s role in the series of movies that has helped make him a household name. But why?

There are tons of young, struggling actors in Hollywood that would have loved to get the chance to audition for the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies. However, Kellan said he turned down the opportunity multiple times because he thought the part was “too depressing,” telling his agent that he wanted “to do something where I smile.”

However, his agent knew that Twilight was going to be big and pushed him to read for the more comedic role of Emmett, and Kellan Lutz was lucky that he fell in love with that character. So you hear that, Robert Pattinson? The only reason you ended up playing Edward Cullen was because Kellan Lutz didn’t want to.

It’s funny that Kellan found the world’s most desirable man (vampire?) depressing, but hopefully he doesn’t let a lack of smiles ruin his movie career — he’s best-suited for action-packed movie roles, and they don’t usually call for a lot of hamming it up on camera.

Here’s a love that will literally last forever. This couple has had an intense bond since they first met when Bella moved to Forks, Washington. Edward was so attracted to Bella (well…Bella’s smell) that he couldn’t even attend school! Since that initial encounter in science class, Bella and Edward have risked everything to be with one another.

Good thing it’s not the 1930s anymore. Otherwise, people might be coming with pitchforks and torches to meet Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), the vampire love interest of Bella in Twilight: Breaking Dawn.
