Jackson Rathbone One of the 2010 Boxoffice MVP’s!
Posted by Maria • No Comments »

We’re only going to look at movies that had a dogro (domestic gross in the US) of at least $40 million, and to be on this list, you have to have been in at least two of those. So, Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t qualify, because he only had the one movie (and that Simpsons ep, but we aren’t counting TV). The other price of admission for consideration? You have to be first billed in a movie that made $100 million dogro.

While some of these movies are still making money, we’re going to go with the numbers at the time of writing. We’ll take the dogro and average it, even though it’s impressive when you have more than two. Voice roles do count…it’s often the name on the poster that brings people to those movies.

Who are The Measured Circle’s Box Office Most Valuable Players for 2010?

#1, #2, #3 (tie) Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Timothy Spall all appeared in both Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland…giving them an average dogro of $296m.

#4 Michael Keaton, thanks to voicing Ken in Toy Story 3 and appearing in The Other Guys, is fourth with $267m…didn’t pick him, did you?

#5 Anne Hathaway, $222m (Alice in Wonderland, Valentine’s Day…Love and Other Drugs isn’t counted, because it hasn’t dogroed $40m)

#6 Jackson Rathbone, $216.5m (Eclipse and Airbender…ask your kids)

#7 Samuel L. Jackson, 215.5m (Iron Man 2, The Other Guys…he probably is always up there as an MVP)

#8 Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter and Clash of the Titans)

#9 Leonardo DiCaprio (Shutter Island, Inception…if we only counted lead roles, he’d be higher)

#10 Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2, The Expendables)

‘Airbender’ tops overseas box office
Posted by Maria • 1 Comment »

The international box office continues to make headway with rollouts of domestic summer holdovers in major overseas markets, even as Labor Day weekend signals the official end of the domestic B.O. season.

Paramount’s 3D film “The Last Airbender,” which expanded to Mexico and China over the Aug. 27-29 weekend, claimed the top spot at foreign wickets. Pic’s weekend take of $20.3 million was enough to knock Warner Bros.’ “Inception” from the chart-topping position it had occupied for four straight weeks.

“Inception” still held well, posting an additional $17 million, boosting overseas totals to $387 million as of Aug. 29. “Airbender” reached $122.2 million in foreign B.O. receipts.
